2020 Ford Explorer Trims & Configurations

The 2020 Ford Explorer is a full-size, three row crossover SUV available in four trims. The all-new ST brings more powerful performance while the new Limited Hybrid option provides a more fuel-efficient and eco-friendly option. XLT

The base XLT features a 2.3L Ecoboost I4 engine producing 300 horsepower. This trim comes with standard rear-wheel drive but is available with all-wheel drive. The XLT model can tow up to 5,300 lbs.

Limited

The Limited is available in both standard and hybrid options. The standard 2.3L EcoBoost engine is shared with the XLT. The Hybrid option is a 3.3L V6 engine with up to 5,000 lb towing capacity.

Both the Limited and the XLT feature a standard 8” touchscreen display. The Limited, however, begins to introduce interior upgrades, like heated second row, a standard power-fold third row, and optional leather seating. It is also the first in the trim lineup to introduce a standard Bang & Olufsen sound system, which carries through to the ST and Platinum.

ST

The ST is the newest trim, and it's all about performance. Its 3.0L V6 engine produces a whopping 400 horsepower. The ST comes standard with all-wheel drive, so this workhorse of an engine can tow up to 5,600 lbs.

To indicate the strength under its hood, the exterior of the ST introduces a new front and rear fascia, black wheels, and red brake calipers. A quad tip exhaust is one of the surest visual signals that the Explorer ST is as powerful as it looks.

The ST's interior is also a step up from the previous trims with more available options for technology integration. The touchscreen infotainment display is rotated into portrait mode and sized up to a 10.1” screen.

Platinum

Like the ST, the Platinum comes with a 3.0L V6 engine and all-wheel drive. The main difference between the ST and the Platinum is the elegant styling. The Platinum swaps the blacked out trim for chrome exterior details. The interior is upgraded, too, featuring perforated leather seats with contrast stitching and leather dashboard details.

The three basic engines available on the 2020 Ford Explorer include:
